Another pic of kings.

Trout bite was a little slow over the weekend, so we decided to go out of the pass for some king mack action. We did pretty well on the kings, trolling just off the beaches.

Hi all,
fishing continues to be very good, especially for spanish mackeral and speckled trout. Most of the spanish we have caught are have been by-catch when we're actually targeting trout. Some of these trout need to grow up a little bit. It seems a lot of them are in the 13-14 inch range right now, but we have caught keepers and a few over 20 in. Hope everyone out there is catching and having a good time.

Wish I had more to report but we did get out on Saturday morning for a couple of hours before the storm blew in. We caught a few trout before we had to wind 'em up and head back to the hill. The trout were eating Mirrodines and Chug Bugs at first light, then the topwater bite quit and we caught fish on Mirrodines after that. Like I said, it was a very short day, off the water by 11 am. Hope this blow ends quickly so we can get back to fishing.

Good luck and tight lines all!
5  General / General Fishing Discussion / Re: Introductions.... Break the ice and say hello on: April 13, 2012, 05:02:16 pm
Hi All, I've lived here for a few years, but just found this website. I moved here from Carrabelle so most of my fishing has been done in Apalachicola Bay. However I have fished a lot in St. Joe and Choctawhatchee bays as well. Just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I run a charter fishing business called eagleraycharters, specializing in light tackle bay and inshore fishing.

Good luck and tight lines!
6  General / General Fishing Discussion / Re: pompano on: April 13, 2012, 04:57:02 pm
Late June is a little late for pompano, but that doesn't mean you can't catch them. Most years the pompano show up in numbers around mid-March and can be caught with some regularity until mid- to late May depending upon water temps. Get yourself a sand flea rake, a sand spike (to hold your rod), some pompano rigs (two hook rigs with a swivel on one end to tie to your tag end of your line from your reel and a snap swivel on the other for a pyramid weight). Depending on how rough the surf is you may need anywhere from a 1 1/2 oz pyramid lead to a 1/2 oz pyramid lead. Rake some fleas from where the surf is washing up on the beach and start fishing. I usually try to walk out to the first sand bar and cast out, but if the tide is high enough I will fish between the beach and the first sand bar. Be patient because the pompano cruise the beaches in schools and it can be a wait until they show up at your location. Once they are there you can catch several then the action will slow down till the next school makes their way past you. I've found that Henderson Beach State Park is a good place to catch pompano. Good luck!

Fishing started off slow on Sunday but picked up after noon. We used live greenies  mostly, to catch a mixed bag of trout, spanish, bluefish, and one redfish. A few fish were caught on mirrodines and gulps around the grass beds. The trout and reds were caught over grass, but the spanish came from the dropoffs near the edges of the flats. Good luck to everyone!
