Offshore/Bottom Fishing Report
A few of the party boats have ventured out in the last couple of weeks and pulled in some nice catches of mingo, white snapper, amberine and triggerfish. Triggerfish were finally put back on the catch list Jan. 1 after being shut down for more than six months. Boston mackerel or squid on a small hook works best for triggerfish. Other fish coming in from the eight-hour trips are red grouper and amberjack. Blackfin tuna have been reported as close in as the edge. However, the best tuna reports are coming from out around the oil rigs. Vertical jigging, chunking and trolling both work for tunas.
